Something for Everyone
First UMC Iowa Park offers many Adult classes for you to experience, we try to offer something for everyone. Below are all current adult classes and information about them.
W.I.N.G.S.
The W.I.N.G.S. class was organized in February of 2007. The acronym stands for
W—-worship
I
N
G—-God’s
S—–Son
Marcia Spears is the teacher and there are 13 members at this time. They study from ‘The Adult Bible Study’ which is an official resource for the UMC and they sometimes do a book study. They support local and global ministries of the church. Each year at Christmas they gather for a fantastic evening of Christmas cheer! They also have other socials during the year and “always” have a great time!
WINGS is an adult class and all adults are welcome. They love, care and support each other. Come join!
Pairs & Spares
The Pairs & Spares Class has been in existence for a long time, as far back as 1970 or beyond. We remember our teachers as Wilbert Wynn in the 70’s; Shirley Lowery in the 80’s-90’s; and Annetta Reusch until her illness in 2015.
Since then our classes have been conducted by individual class members on a rotating basis. Our members teach a wide range of topics, and the lessons are always interesting and inspiring. It is our purpose to support the church in all of its missions. We make and distribute prayer blankets to various people to show our love and concern. We also take care of the Jay and Kathy Farmer Scholarship to deserving senior high students. Further, we volunteer our time and support to various community services in the area.
It is our desire to be disciples of Christ. We want to spread his word and teachings in any way and anywhere that we can! Come join us!
Kum Dubl
Kum Dubl Class is for Senior Citizens. It started around 1950 with the first teacher being Mrs. Vida Albright. At the present there are 25 members on the roll.
Our class has the best percentage of attendance of any of the classes in the church! We continue to be a cornerstone of the church and a shining example of what Christianity means. We invite you to come visit and see how youthful and exuberant we really are! You would enjoy our great teacher, Connie Robinson.
The Spirit Seekers
The Spirit Seekers are a group of Christians diverse in age (30-?) who enjoy a casual learning atmosphere. Our lessons vary from DVD based series, current events topics, organized books of the Bible lessons, to individuals formulating lessons when compelled by the Spirit. Occasionally, volunteers lead the studies in place of a designated “teacher.” The lessons always lead to animated discussion—Spirit Seekers love to talk!
We coordinate several potluck meals during the year including Senior Recognition Sunday (May), Sunday School rally (Back to school) and the Churchwide Thanksgiving meal (November), in addition to assisting with serving at Faith Mission, commodities distribution, and providing VBS volunteers. Come join us!!
New Collage
The New Collage Class is an active, vibrant group of adults that study God’s word using various sources of study, but always with an emphasis on the Bible.
We are very involved in various ministries of the church and are proud of our 20 years of preparing and serving Wednesday night suppers!
